My mother recalls that Gladys suffered from post natal depression after having the twin boys. They were living at the time at John's Street which is off Rose Lane, Norwich - Gladys was committed to David Rice Metal Hospital at Hellesdon, Norwich (reasons are unsure at this stage). She would never returned home. She died as an inmate in 1944 at the very young age of 35.
My mother recalls that my grandmother would often visit her - why did she die so early? what a sad case and what happened to her sons? - we believe they were taken into care, we would love to trace them - Ray Taylor

I can give you a little information about the “Twins”. They spent part of their childhood in Turner Road Childrens Home, Norwich. In 1949 (when I was a baby) my mum recalled them turning up at Ropemakers Row looking for my grandmother. My mum didn’t know who they were but told them that my nan was out at work and they would have to come back later. When nan returned from work my mum told her she had had visitors and nan said they were her sister Glady’s children, they did not come back. In the mid 70’s they were living in Gainsborough, Lincs it was believed their father took them there. They came to my grandfather’s funeral (George Wiseman) in 1977 but did not come to nans when she died in 1985. We have heard nothing from them since. They were both married and Tony’s wifes name was Sheila. - Christine Boggis - granddaughter of Edna Maud Tong (1906)

Twins are Found
I am the granddaughter of Anthony Frederick Claxton, I have just come across your amazing website with the family tree for the Tong family whilst looking for my great grandmother Gladys Gertrude Tong, this information and the photo will mean a lot to my grandad who doesn't know much about his mother's family. My grandad has been married to my grandmother Sheila for 57 years and have 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. They have lived in Lincolnshire, all their married life. Uncle Jimmy is married to Maisie. They had a very tough life after leaving Norwich and we hear new stories about their childhood all the time. They were taken to Lincolnshire by their father after the home in Norwich was bombed, their dad wasn't around much and they had to fend for themselves for a few years until they were taken back into care at Holmeleigh Children's Home in Horncastle until they were old enough to leave. He is rather excited to see the pictures and hear more about his family. I know he has had some connection in the past with his Auntie Edna & Uncle John. Kind regards Kerry Cook
